Princess dress

I found out yesterday that it would be 'Pirates & Princesses Day' (celebrating the letter P) today at Liv's PreSchool. After raiding the dress-up box, we found that all our princess and fairy dresses (of which there are many) are now too small for Liv, who has had a growth spurt recently and at four years old is now 108cm tall!

Thus, some late-night sewing for a princess was in order;

When I first started learning to sew, I bought some lengths of pink, purple and white tulle, thinking that one day it might come in handy, having two girls (I pictured myself making some little tutus!).

I layered the tulle (pink on top, two layers of white and more pink underneath) to create a full skirt and then I just stiched the seam and put elastic in the waistband. I was going to shred some of the layers, like a fairy skirt, but decided to go for the classic princess look instead.

(Well, as classic as it can be, with rainbow sneakers underneath!)

The top of her 'dress' was a pale pink t-shirt to which I added puffy sleeves out of white tulle, but I haven't managed to take a photo of it yet.

The hat was princess style, with more tulle at the point and re-enforced elastic

Important for princesses who are so excited they won't stop running around;

Liv spent a lot of time in the bath last night pondering just how exactly a princess should wear her hair... before exclaiming that 'one long plait!' was the perfect princess hairstyle;

Liv was quite amazed, thinking I had turned her old princess dress into a longer princess dress. She didn't quite understand that it was a whole new outfit, because she kept saying 'But how did you make it this colour?'. A little bit of magic, I guess!

Then it was off to PreSchool;
