Flowers {from Paper Towels}

I have stolen this idea from some Preschoolers who came to the school I work at yesterday, to put on a little concert for our children. In addition to their beautiful performance, the littlies brought along a basket of flowers they had made ~ one for each child, which we attached to their wheelchairs. It was a very touching gesture; the flowers were so beautiful and colourful and brought a smile to many faces.

I knew my girls would love to make some, but wasn't quite sure how they were made. So Elly and I experimented today;

We gathered up our materials; food colouring, paper towels and a spray bottle filled with water... Then it was time to make a mess!

The idea was to cover the whole paper towel with colour, but Elly wanted to move on to the next one pretty quickly. I just followed her lead and gave her 3-4 sheets of paper towel each time, to make use of all the colour that was soaking through;

Soon we had a whole table full of coloured paper towels. We sprayed them with water, so the colours would bleed, then it was time to hang them up;

As our luck would have it, it immediately started raining! Thankfully, after about 10 minutes the sun emerged again so we could dry them;

The next step was cutting around the outside of each colourful blob, making sure we cut off all the white edges. Then we pinched it in the middle and twisted a green pipe cleaner around it, to make a stem. Soon we had a whole bunch!

Elly is under there, somewhere! We made a couple more bunches and we plan to give some away tomorrow and share the love {We've also kept some for ourselvesl!}

They are just so lovely and happy and bright and best of all... handmade by a very proud 3 year old!

Hi! I am new to your blog and love your ideas... These paper towel flowers are adorable and look like a project I might have to do with my children for Mother's Day... They would make a cute little gift for each of their grandmothers!
