Fabric Covered Napkin Rings

My Mother-in-law is always a source of creative inspiration. Many years ago, she made me some napkin rings when Nick and I hosted a North-American-style Thanksgiving dinner party for some friends. She wrapped raffia around some cardboard tubes that she had cut into rings. They looked great and I still have them. I used the same technique today to make some napkin holders for our Mothers Day lunch this Sunday, except this time I used fabric.

It's so easy, I thought I would show you the steps for making your own!

You will need:

Fabric, cardboard tube, ruler, scizzors and pen.

Step 1: Make a mark every inch or so along your cardboard tube and cut;

Step 2: Cut some fabric strips about an inch wide by about 40cm long;

{Look, I didn't even iron my fabric... they end up looking very scrappy and frayed anyway, it just adds to the charm!}

Step 3: Leaving about 2 inches at your starting point, begin wrapping your fabric strip around the ring, making sure the fabric is facing right-side up!

Step 4: When you have covered your ring with fabric, tie a double knot;

That's it! Continue wrapping your cardboard rings until you have a whole set;

Then it might be time to make another set;

A nice, simple little way to add some colour to your table;

Thank you to Jan for the original idea!
