Tray mobile

Elly and I dropped off a few bags of stuff at the Salvation Army store this afternoon and just as we were leaving, I spied this green tray mobile.

Last year I had cut out a picture from a House & Garden magazine of a tray mobile just like this one, however it was red and it had a $240 price tag. Needless to say, when I saw this one today with a $10 price tag, I was very keen to buy it.

Unfortunately, it was just on closing time and the lady had already counted the takings and locked the cash register for the day. 'Take it!' she exclaimed, waving her hands in the air, shooing me away, 'It's yours, put it in your car!' and she bustled me out of there, wheeling this baby in front of me!

I know not everyone will agree, but I love the Christmas-tree green colour, it's perfect for this time of year for displaying my Department 56 Christmas Village. It's not the whole village or even close, just a few pieces I bought when Nick and I lived in Canada (I think in total I shipped back more than my weight in Christmas ornaments that year!).

The girls love the little scene that the pieces create...and on the green tray mobile, it is just the right height for them to peer in and see all the little details, like the elves making toys;

The ice cream peddler;

Toy Headquarters;

...and Elves speeding away in crayola crayon cars!

The girls helped sprinkle on the snow today~ after 7 years, I am down to my last little bag of it!

It just might be time to add to the little collection...

Some women collect handbags or shoes... if I had my way, I would own the entire Department 56 North Pole Series Christmas Village... the Yummy Gummy Gumdrop Factory, Twinkle Bright Glitter Factory, North Pole Cookie Exchange, Northwind Knitters, Naughty or Nice Detective Agency...The Egg Nog Pub!

There are 20 pages of Lighted Buildings, not to mention accessories and figurines, I had to stop at page 10 because I just can't stand how adorable it all is. I don't know what that says about me... I just know my husband is glad I can't buy any of this in Australia and the shipping costs are definitely a deterrent for me!

I was just thinking - can you get Dept 56 in Australia....and then I read further. Hmm, well (close your eyes Nick) we'll have to see about that...I'll give you a heads up if we're ever coming out your way :-)
