Shadow Puppets

At the library today, I borrowed this wonderful book called Paper Made! It's written by Kayte Terry, Merchandising Manager of Anthropologie and as you can imagine, it is filled with the most amazing paper crafts.

The publisher hails it as the 'biggest, best, most innovative book ever on paper craft... not about how to use costly, artsy paper, but how to turn stuff around the house...into stunning jewelry, gifts, home décor, party favors, and much more'.

I could hardly wait to have a proper look through it and within about 5 minutes of arriving home, I did just that. Then I decided we would be making shadow puppets.

I downloaded the templates (#82), printed them out (on coloured paper, couldn't find any black) and in-between settling Ollie and making the girls lunch, I had cut out the shapes for all four animals;

Then I raided our craft box for some brads (Livvie calls them 'split pins') and even though I didn't have enough of them, some sticky-tape did the trick to attach the tails. The girls found some sticks outside and we had ourselves some shadow puppets!

Then it was straight to their bedroom, with curtains closed, for some story-telling and puppet practice. Then at bedtime tonight, the girls did a puppet show for us, on their bedroom wall;

I definitely recommend this book and can't wait to try some more projects. This one was so much fun!

{The girls especially liked it when they lay down, close to the wall, and the puppets 'kissed' them goodnight!}
