Siblings

I was under-the-weather with a terrible head-cold thing last week and, left to their own devices, the girls found a bag of my old clothes that I put aside, to give to charity. I was vaguely aware  (in my feverish, head-achey state) that they asked to play dress-ups one afternoon. Sure, go for it. So they did....in my old Maxi dresses;

They had a great time in these, alternating between calling themselves a mum, a princess and a mermaid. Nice to know they put us Mums in the same category as those last two, because when I look at these dresses, all I can think is, 'What was I thinking?!?!?'

After expressing a keen interest in it, we have signed Livvie up for Netball this year. Nick bought the girls a netball each and I drew a 'friend' for each of them, on the wall, in chalk;

They have spent many hours throwing and bouncing the ball back and forth to their chalk friends. (But why is it, that they play nicer with their chalk friend, than they do each other, when it comes to ball games?!?!?).

But I am so glad we had the girls close together... being only 18 months apart, they always have a friend to play with at home;

Elly however, is known for making bold statements and also, for her extreme competitiveness with her big sister. It's definitely not something we encourage, but it does make for some funny moments;

1. Last week, Livvie (6 yrs) was pondering what she would like to be, when she grows up.

'Well, I know what I want to be when I grow up' said Elly (amost 5 yrs), with confidence,  'I want to be the boss of the world!'

I am quite sure she really thinks she will be, too!

2. On school days, I take Livvie right into the school grounds, which means all four of us have to get out of the car. I have been casually suggesting and encouraging Livvie to consider doing the 'Kiss and Drop'. She isn't keen at all and likes to hold my hand when we go into 'Big School' each morning. I don't blame her, it can be a bit daunting walking into the playground with 300 children running around!

'Mum' said Elly, 'On my first day of Kindergarten next year, you can just give me a kiss and drop me off at the front gate. I'll be fine'

Hmm... we'll see about that!

3. And then yesterday, Elly declared, 'There are only two things I care about. Food and Oliver'.

No mention of Livvie. That's sibling love for you.
